The Playhouse Disney Preschool Time Online web site is an oxymoron. Here is what Disney says about it:

It’s entirely ad-free so it’s a safe way to introduce young children to the computer.

Hogwash! Balderdash! My goodness, who does not know that Disney in and of itself, and de facto by its brand name and characters’ worldwide recognition, is indeed advertising? Were I a parent receiving this “offer” from Disney, I would be more than a little insulted. Surely, all parents must be idiots, or so it appears that is what Disney thinks.

Disneyland. Disneyworld. Mickey Mouse. Goofy. Which of those does not conjure up a single name brand — Disney? In fact, when those opposed to the marketing of cigarettes to children asked if the character Joe Camel was known to them, the findings were that Joe Camel was as well-known to kids as…guess who? Mickey Mouse! These were children only six or seven years old.

How dare Disney state there is no advertising at this site when it itself is nothing else but that? Disney, this one is below the belt. You clearly view us as nonthinking nitwits. However, my dear blog readers decide for yourselves and even view this video (i.e., marketing spiel) available at the site.

Oh, one more thing: The site’s $9.95 monthly subscription comes with a free 7-day trial period. Now isn’t that nice? Take away the little child’s new toy after they’ve had it for seven days. A trial period? Yea, right. Might anyone also want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge?
