Tour the Black Pearl

Wednesday, 7 June 2006; 13:53

Life can be very strange. I lived in the mid-west for a while and found all the yacht racing (on large lakes) I could want. I then moved back to the Atlantic coast and now cannot find a spot as crew on a racing yacht anywhere. For those who know little about me, that explains my keeping up with the Volvo Ocean Race.

And for now, it appears the closest I will get anytime soon to placing a racing yacht on its ear is this virtual tour of the Black Pearl, one of the yachts participating in the 2005-2006 Volvo Ocean Race and crewed by The Pirates of the Caribbean Racing Team.

Oh my captain, what I would give to look up and see a spinnaker filled with wind….

The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;

State Tyre Sales

Wednesday, 7 June 2006; 13:08

The Distillery has long intended to have a look at Michelin Tires, but has not thus far. However, in our search to bring you something palatable each day, we did uncover State Tyre Sales. (Yes, that’s tyre and not tire, and therein lies a clue to its location.)

Indeed, those Aussies are at it again. The site is not at all fully developed, but we will keep an eye on it. After all, I’ve yet to meet an Aussie that did not warm my heart, nor a Foster’s that did not quench my thirst. Let’s see what they end up doing with tyres. They are off to a good start.

Lipton Brisk Iced Tea

Wednesday, 7 June 2006; 10:21

This may come as a surprise to some, but not to those of us from the South. That is, good cold iced tea on a hot summer day is da bomb! (Sweet iced tea, of course. Not that unsweetened northern abomination.) Personally, I find any canned iced tea to be only a shadow of the real iced tea that real Southerners drink, but no one yet has been able to properly can a mother’s love and/or home cooking. Given that, Lipton Brisk Iced Tea isn’t bad when it comes to food or drink facsimiles.

Still, let us look closer. What Lipton Brisk lacks in syrupy sweet taste, it makes up for with its online promotion. There you will find another music mixer, and best of all, Hip Hop Milestones (…a journey through the most influential moments of Hip Hop history).

And now the bad. The site is terribly out of date. The contests ended some time ago, but the site has not been fully updated to reflect that. In fact, Lipton hasn’t even gotten around to posting the names of any winners.

If we follow a less obvious link at the site, we arrive at the primary Lipton site. There we find more nutritional information about tea than we might wish to know. We discover that Lipton sponsors a women’s bicycle racing team, TEAm LIPTON. (Yea, I’m an “old fart” bicycle racer of 25 years now, but am a bit out of shape this season. Blogging does not keep one as fit as biking.)

We also find a multi-media presentation of tea’s healthful benefits. And, we find The Lipton Live Well Challenge. Yes, Lipton’s umbrella site is very rich indeed.

News Flash!: Blogtipping triumphs over Cowtipping!

Blogtipping graphic

The Distillery humbly thanks WordPress blog chartreuse (Beta) for noticing its meager efforts on this month’s Blogtipping Day. Both praises and suggestions are duly noted. In return, it is an immense pleasure to add you to The Distillery’s blogroll. Instead of one “less potential friend,” you have one more definite friend. Please let me know if ever I can do you a favor. Again, thank you.

For those interested, more about the art, science, and alchemy of blogtipping can be found here (Successful and Outstanding Bloggers: A Community of Leaders) and here (Know More Media: All Business. All TheTime). And remember, share the love–and the tipping. But please, leave the poor bovines alone.
